If you`re part of group of people who would trade a trip to the Pantanal for any beach in the Northeast, may be surprised if you change your mind and get the first option. Among blue macaws and jaguars, the region is one of the best pictures of nature, with beauty that attract tourists from around the world.
In the most extensive wetland area of the planet, life is ruled by the flow of water, with six months full and six other tide. The slope of the land, almost zero, it favors the floods that spread along the Rio Paraguay, the only outlet of the Pantanal, in its 1.4 thousand kilometers of Brazilian territory.
This alternation in the volume of water dictates the pace of life near the river and its major tributaries such as the St. Lawrence (670 km long), the Cuiabá (650 km), Miranda (490 miles), the Taquari (480 km), the cushion (280 kilometers) and Aquidauana (565 miles).
The rainy season - December to March - is marked by heavy rains, which flooded part of the Pantanal. The period has even higher temperature and is ideal for bird watching. Mammals are rare at this time, because of water escape and hide in the higher parts, called ridges.
Between July and September, the drought turns the region into a vast area of grassland. It is the ideal time to check the characteristics of mammals. Not to mention that in August, just before the start of spring begin to bloom the trees.
The intervening period between the flood and ebb - April to May - is marked by the formation of ponds and puddles of water that the dam some 260 species of fish (gold plated, painted, pacu, piranha, traíras), giving the appearance of predators such as birds and alligators.
